Our Mission

Climate resilience is a global business imperative. AT&T’s approach is helping to ensure a climate-resilient future.

Building a Resilient Network

Network Resilience

AT&T is enhancing climate resilience in our own network operations and in our communities.

We integrate advanced climate data into decision-making processes to protect our infrastructure, and we make that data available to communities to assist in their hazard mitigation and climate resilience planning.

We continue to seek new ways to integrate climate data into our planning systems to inform infrastructure decisions for the future.

Climate Data

AT&T collaborates with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory to produce and leverage best-in-class climate data.

Climate Data Benefits

Understanding Climate Impacts

This data helps us understand how climate impacts could affect our network and operations up to 30 years in the future, and down to the neighborhood level.

Adapting to Climate Change

Combined with near-term forecasts and historical trends, these projections help us anticipate, prepare for and adapt to a changing climate.

Data Integration

This data is integrated into systems and processes that guide infrastructure buildouts in both the wireless and the wireline parts of AT&T’s business.

Climate Risk and Resilience Portal

AT&T has teamed up with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Argonne National Laboratory to develop the Climate Risk and Resilience Portal (ClimRR).

  • ClimRR is an online tool that makes some of the most sophisticated climate-science modeling in the world publicly accessible. .
  • It provides state, local, Tribal and territorial emergency managers and policymakers with free access to localized data about future climate risks that can be used to develop strategies for resilience.
  • ClimRR enables state and local governments and public safety officials to understand how climate risks, such as extreme heat, heavy rainfall, wildfire and drought, will affect their populations over the coming decades.

Climate Resilient Communities Initiative

AT&T’s Climate Resilient Communities Initiative provides additional support to state and local governments.

  • It includes technical and strategic assistance in running climate risk analyses and incorporating ClimRR insights into state and local hazard mitigation and climate resilience plans.
  • Working with city planners, sustainability professionals and emergency managers, our experts examine how local populations could be impacted by climate-related hazards such as extreme heat, flooding, dangerous fire weather conditions or drought.
  • This empowers local agencies to take proactive steps to protect the most vulnerable members of their communities.

To date, the initiative has provided expert guidance to communities in Colorado, Idaho, Kentucky and New York, identifying local climate vulnerabilities and recommending solutions to address escalating hazards. To drive further impact, we're also developing materials that offer instruction to communities on how to use ClimRR to inform their local hazard mitigation planning, enabling even more communities to pursue this kind of work.
